How SJ Transformed Her Confidence, Pricing and Business

Sometimes the biggest breakthrough in business isn’t finding more customers. It’s recognising the value of what you already do.

When SJ and I started working together, she had a clear financial goal in mind for her decorating business.

The problem? She wasn’t getting anywhere near it.

And perhaps more importantly, her confidence was holding her back.

She was talented, hardworking and clearly doing something right. But like so many business owners, she couldn’t quite see what was already in front of her.

The Business Wasn’t the Problem. The Belief Was.

One of the first things we explored in our coaching sessions was where SJ’s enquiries were coming from.

And something really interesting became clear.

She was receiving enquiries. People wanted to work with her. And a significant number of those enquiries were coming through genuine recommendations.

Think about that for a moment.

People weren’t just finding her business. They were actively recommending her to others.

That’s a huge indicator of trust, quality and reputation.

But SJ wasn’t giving herself enough credit for what she’d already built.

Sometimes, as a business coach, my job isn’t to give someone all the answers. It’s to help them recognise the evidence that’s already there and challenge the story they’re telling themselves.

SJ needed to see that her business had value. And that she had every reason to believe in herself.

Then We Looked at the Numbers

Confidence was one part of the picture.

But confidence alone wasn’t going to get SJ to her financial goal.

So we got practical.

We looked at the monthly income she wanted to achieve and worked backwards.

And we quickly discovered something important.

At her existing prices, her income goal simply wasn’t achievable.

She could have worked harder, taken on more jobs and filled every available hour, but the numbers still wouldn’t have worked.

This is something I see regularly in business.

People set ambitious financial goals without stopping to work out whether their pricing and business model can actually deliver them.

So we reviewed SJ’s pricing and worked out a new structure that would make her target possible.

But here’s the thing.

Creating new prices is one thing.

Having the confidence to actually charge them is another.

And that’s where the coaching really mattered.

She Didn’t Just Change Her Prices. She Changed Her Belief in Herself.

We worked together on building SJ’s confidence in communicating and using her new pricing.

She began to recognise the value of her skills, experience and the reputation she’d already developed.

And once she started putting those changes into practice, things really took off.

Within three months, SJ was achieving the monthly income goal she’d originally set herself.

Not only that, she became fully booked approximately six months in advance.

What had once felt out of reach was now her reality.

And it wasn’t because she’d suddenly become a better decorator.

She was already good at what she did.

She simply needed the right pricing, a clearer understanding of her business and the confidence to back herself.

But This Story Isn’t Really About Money

Of course, achieving her income goal was a huge milestone.

But one of the things I love most about SJ’s story is what that success actually means to her.

SJ is a mum, and one of her biggest ambitions has always been to have more time with her daughter during the school holidays.

As she explained:

“My main aim is to be able to take time off in the school holidays with my daughter, and the income I’m now achieving and being fully booked is helping me do this.”

And that, for me, is what building a successful business should be about.

Not just turnover.

Not just a packed diary.

Not just looking successful from the outside.

It’s about creating a business that gives you the income, choices and freedom to live the life you want.

So What’s Next for SJ?

This is where her story gets even more exciting.

SJ doesn’t want to be a decorator forever.

She’s also an artist, and her longer-term ambition is to move her business towards creating murals and wall art.

So our coaching conversations have evolved.

We’re now looking at how to future-proof her business, build on the success she’s already achieved and create a pathway towards the creative work she really wants to be doing.

Because business coaching isn’t just about fixing what’s happening today.

It’s about asking bigger questions.

Where do you want to be in five years?

Does your current business model support that?

And what needs to change now to make that future possible?

SJ has already proved to herself what she can achieve. Now we’re working on what’s next.

What Can Other Business Owners Learn from SJ’s Story?

There are three things I’d love you to take away.

1. Don’t confuse a lack of confidence with a lack of ability.

Sometimes you’re already doing brilliant work. You just need someone to help you see it.

2. Your financial goals need to match your pricing.

You can’t expect to achieve a bigger income if the numbers behind your business don’t make it possible.

3. Build a business for the life you want, not just the work you do today.

Your ambitions will change. Your priorities will evolve. Your business should be able to evolve with you.

This Is Why I Love Coaching

Watching SJ grow in confidence, achieve her financial goal and start planning an exciting new direction for her business has been such a privilege.

She’s an inspiration, and I’m incredibly proud of what she’s achieved.

But here’s what I want you to understand.

I didn’t create SJ’s talent, work ethic or reputation.

She already had those things.

My role was to help her recognise them, challenge the thinking that was holding her back, make the numbers work and support her in taking action.

Because sometimes the breakthrough isn’t about getting more clients. It’s about changing what you believe is possible and building the right foundations to achieve it.
